This post was created for those seeking adventure and wishing to embark on an unforgettable journey through the central part of the Western Sudetes. Discover what’s worth visiting in the Karkonosze Mountains.

The mountain shelter Samotnia in the Mały Staw Cirque. How beautiful it is here!

If you’re in the Karkonosze Mountains, hiking is a must. However, you don’t have to jump in at the deep end and head for Śnieżka on your first day. An interesting place worth visiting in the Karkonosze is the PTTK mountain shelter “Samotnia” (1195 m a.s.l.). You can reach it by following the blue trail that starts near the Wang Church. After about an hour and a half of walking along forest paths, you’ll arrive at your destination.

The shelter has a rich history and is popular with tourists all year round. It’s undeniably charming—the rustic Samotnia is located in an exceptionally picturesque area and perfectly fits the atmosphere of the Karkonosze. You can enjoy a hot meal and a cup of tea here, regaining energy for the rest of your hike. For more tired visitors, overnight accommodation is available—the shelter offers several dozen beds.

Medieval Czocha Castle. A unique place on the map of Karkonosze

The medieval Czocha Castle, an architectural gem in the Karkonosze Mountains

Located near the town of Leśna, Czocha Castle is one of the must-see places in the Karkonosze Mountains, regardless of whether you’re a child or an adult. It’s a well-known tourist attraction in Lower Silesia, best explored with a guide. Nicknamed the Polish Hogwarts, the fortress impresses with its majesty and richness of collections. During the tour, you can learn about the history of the site and take a close look at mysterious chambers surrounded by various legends. Inside the impressive walls of Czocha Castle, there is a multimedia torture chamber, and creative workshops for children, knight tournaments, and other shows are regularly organized. Those craving truly unique experiences can opt for a night tour, which includes three hours of discovering the secret passages of the medieval fortress.

Japanese Garden Little Japan. A Journey to the Land of the Rising Sun

Anyone wondering what’s worth seeing in the Karkonosze Mountains should definitely add the Japanese Garden Siruwia to their travel list. Here you’ll discover fantastic plants arranged in oriental compositions that follow the principles of feng shui. Rhododendrons, bonsai trees, azaleas, and other wonderful trees and shrubs create an extraordinary atmosphere. Within the grounds, you’ll find a shop with Japanese products and a cozy café serving traditional sweets and beverages. Little Japan is a slice of Japan in the Karkonosze—a place where simplicity and freedom of composition blend together in perfect harmony. If you’re planning to explore the Karkonosze Mountains with children, you’ll likely stay longer at the Siruwia Garden. That’s because it features the Highest Playground in Lower Silesia, namely the Fun Park with tunnel slides and a giant sandbox. While the youngest guests have fun on the slides and ropes, older visitors can head to the Museum with a multimedia table, where they’ll see a samurai hologram and fascinating exhibits related to Japanese culture. Little Japan is easily accessible from Karpacz, Jelenia Góra, and Szklarska Poręba.
