In Little Japan in Przesieka, you have a unique opportunity to see up close true masterpieces of Japanese craftsmanship – Uchikake kimonos, traditionally worn by brides and women of high social status during the most ceremonial occasions. Uchikake is not just clothing – it is cultural heritage and a symbolic story woven into silk and embroidery.
Uchikake (打掛) is the most formal and ceremonial type of kimono, characterized by:
no obi belt – worn loosely as an outer robe,
rich embroidery, often with gold and silver threads,
heavy, decorative fabric and an extended train (often trailing on the ground),
symbolism of motifs: cranes (longevity), waves (strength and life), flowers (the beauty of impermanence), phoenixes (rebirth).
They were mainly worn during weddings, public appearances, and court ceremonies. Every pattern, color, and embroidery technique carried a specific meaning, connected with wishes for prosperity, happiness, or harmony.
In a specially arranged space at Little Japan, we present original kimonos brought from Japan—some of which are unique pieces from the Showa and Heisei periods. The exhibition is a unique lesson in the history and aesthetics of the Land of the Rising Sun. Each kimono is accompanied by a description explaining the symbolism of the motifs and the meaning of the colors used.
Visitors can admire, among others:
traditional red wedding kimonos featuring crane motifs,
light Uchikake with phoenixes, blooming cherry blossoms, and gold—symbolizing harmony and new beginnings.
The Uchikake Kimono Exhibition is:
the only exhibition of its kind in the Karkonosze region,
a perfect attraction for lovers of Japan, fashion, and craftsmanship,
a chance to take extraordinary photos in a beautifully styled Japanese setting,
an opportunity to explore the symbolism and spirituality embodied in traditional garments.
Visit Little Japan in Przesieka and immerse yourself in the world of Japanese kimonos, bonsai, tea, and the culture of a country that captivates with its simplicity and depth.
